Electrolysis – What is electrolysis?

The only method to remove hair permanently.

Electrolysis, also called needle epilation, is the oldest method of permanent hair removal. It is still the most effective technique to remove unwanted hair permanently, therefore forever, regardless of hair color, hair thickness and skin type.

Needle epilation can be applied on anyone and to all body areas.

During the electrolysis treatment, the hair roots are destroyed individually by a current pulse, which guarantees a permanent hair removal.

Have you always wanted to get rid of unwanted hair in the long term?

You have already tried many temporary depilation methods such as plucking, shaving, waxing, epilating or other hair removal methods based on light such as: Laser, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Super Hair Removal (SHR)?

But often these hair removal methods can only achieve a mostly short-term growth delay and do not obtain a durable solution.

Do you suffer from painful inflammations, reddened areas or ingrown hair?

Are you bothered by bristly, dark, fine, blond or even gray hair and want a final solution to have beautiful smooth skin?

Your solution:
Choose the only proven method to date to treat hair permanently by means of electrolysis and enjoy the certainty of having chosen one of the best proven hair removal methods!

Treatment – How does electrolysis work?

Electrolysis has turned out so far to be the most effective and efficient procedure to destroy the entire follicle and the hair root permanently.

Each individual hair is treated by inserting a very fine probe made of surgical steel, which is barely noticeable, into the hair canal along the direction of hair growth.

Subsequently, a short current pulse is released. It is a combination of heat and electricity supply. The current pulse causes the hair to detach from the hair root and can be removed with tweezers.

Depending on the individual sensation, the current pulse is sensed as heat or a slight tingling, similar to plucking.

The perception of heat is sensed with different intensity in different areas of the body.

In order to get a feeling for the treatment and to experience how your skin reacts to the treatment, I offer all clients a test treatment after the consultation.

For a test treatment, the hair on the desired body areas should be at least 3-5 mm, so that I can successfully remove the unwanted hair.

The test treatment takes about 10-15 minutes, during which a small area is treated to see how your healing process after the electrolysis treatment will proceed and how you personally feel.

You are welcome to decide on the spot whether you want to take a test treatment.

In a non-binding consultation I will inform you about electrolysis and the different methods of needle epilation.

The most suitable method for you will be determined individually and can be applied directly in the test treatment.

Efficiently and effectively I – your electrologist – remove all the annoying and unwanted hair.

All skin, hair types and hair colors can be treated with electrolysis.
It does no matter whether your hair is light, fine, gray, red, dark, thick, thin, all can be permanently removed.

What is electrolysis?

In an electrolysis treatment, the hair roots are destroyed individually by an current pulse, which guarantees a permanent hair removal.

What is depilation?

The hair removal with mechanical means and only short term success is called depilation.

This includes the following methods: waxing, shuggering, hair removal creams, plucking, shaving or epilating with an electric epilator

Is the result of electrolysis permanent?

Needle epilation is the only hair removal method that achieves a permanent hair removal, in which your hair is destroyed forever in the hair root and therefore can never grow back.

First applied 130 years ago and expanded and refined over the decades, it is now also being practiced with great success in Germany.

How long does my treatment take?

The duration of a treatment depends on several factors, such as hair growth phases (anagen, catagen and telogen), hormonal and genetic factors. It also depends on the hair density and the size of the body area to be treated. I will inform you about that in detail in a consultation.

What is the sequence of a treatment?

If you want to remove your hair, you need to have patience in any case and regardless of the method. The intervals between treatments depend on the treated body area and the associated growth cycles.

What is the best time of the year for an electrolysis treatment?

Needle epilation can be used in any season of the year.

In the summertime it is important to avoid direct sunlight on the treated skin areas for 2-3 days after the treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

Electrolysis is perceived differently according to personal sensation and the condition of the skin and hair.

If you choose the needle epilation method you do not have to fear pain by inserting a probe. A very fine probe is inserted into the hair canal and is barely noticeable.

Depending on the individual sensation, the current pulse is sensed as heat or a slight tingling, similar to plucking.

The perception of heat is sensed with different intensity in different areas of the body.

The removal of the hair is then again completely painless and you will not feel it.

What risks and side effects of needle epilation can occur?

If the treatment is carried out gently, there are only minor side effects.

Redness and swelling may occur in the treated areas, which usually ease after a short time.

Redness and swelling during the treatment are normal physical reactions that are of short duration.

The following side effects are rare, but cannot be excluded: Pigment disorder, inflammation, hematomas, small scars in the form of enlarged pores or the smallest burns of the skin surface, which are rarely observed nowadays during treatment by a specially trained specialist.

What do I have to pay attention to after the treatment?

After the treatment you should refrain from following recommendations for at least 48 hours:

Mechanical irritations such as peeling, shaving, plucking, swimming pool ,sauna visits, fitness center, UV- rays (solarium/sunbath), touching, soap or cleaning products, make-up, bleach and all conventional skin care products.

If there are signs of incomplete regeneration, the precautionary measures should be maintained over a longer period of time.

Within the first 48 hours and as often as you feel the need afterwards, you can care for your skin with wound healing ointments, such as a skin soothing and cooling gel, such as aloe vera, or wound healing creams.

You can perform all other activities without restrictions.

In our first consultation you will receive an information sheet – What to keep in mind after the electrolysis treatment – and I will inform you about all the details.

How long does a session take?

This can vary greatly, as it depends on the density of the hair and the area to be treated. Sessions can vary between 5 minutes and two hours.

How much time should I schedule for the consultation?

The consultation takes about 45 minutes. Together we will make an anamnesis that is important for the treatment, in which all possible peculiarities of your state of health will be considered.

I will provide you with detailed information on all topics related to hair removal by electrolysis and I will of course answer all your questions and give you the best possible information and prepare you for the treatment.

You are welcome to learn more about electrolysis during a test treatment (about 10 minutes) and experience how your skin reacts to the treatment and how you personally feel about it.

Is it possible to start the treatment directly if you have already had experience with electrolysis treatment before?

How much does the consultation, treatment or estimate cost?

The consultation costs 40 euros once. If desired, incl. free test treatment.

There is an additional 10 euro processing fee for the cost estimate to the health insurance company.

The treatment costs will be calculated individually in a consultation. This depends on the size of the body area to be treated and the hair density of the area.

The electrolysis is charged by the minute.

The test treatment can be taken directly after the consultation if you wish.

The test treatment is not necessary if you already have experience with electrolysis.

What role does hygiene & quality play in the epilation practice?

In my epilation practice epiLa, compliance with hygiene and quality standards is a matter of course. I use sterile disposable probes and gloves for every electrolysis treatment, which are then disposed. For all customers the couch is covered freshly before the treatment begins. The workplace and the area to be treated are thoroughly disinfected before the treatment.

epiLa works on a high medical level with exclusively distributed epilation devices of internationally leading manufacturers, which have been tested for many years, are reliable and are successfully used by me in the practice epiLa for permanent hair removal.

When does the health insurance company cover the costs of the treatment?

The costs of an electrolysis treatment can be covered in the following exceptional cases:

Transgender, hirsutism, PCOS, genetic disorder, hormone disorder or in case of hair growth caused by medication.

What documents do I need for the health insurance to cover the costs?

It is recommended to contact your health insurance company before the first consultation and treatment to find out which documents are required for the assumption of costs of the electrolysis treatment. This can vary with each health insurance company.

Usually the following documents are required:

– Estimate of costs or a written application for the assumption of costs of electrolysis from the practice epiLa. Therefore I need your health insurance number and the complete address of your health insurance company.

– A diagnosis or an expertise of a physician (e.g. endocrinologist) with an urgent recommendation and necessity of an electrolysis – Photographs of the affected area, showing the extent of hair, will be taken on the spot in a consultation for both the health insurance company and the estimate of costs.

Unfortunately, it is always an individual case decision whether and under what conditions an assumption of costs is granted.

It is worth a try in any case!

The preparation of an estimate of costs by your electrologist is included in the service and free of charge.

You are welcome to arrange a consultation appointment.
Appointments are as agreed with the client.

What happens if I cancel an appointment?

The time for your treatment has been reserved especially for you. If you have to postpone or cancel an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible, but at least 24 hours in advance.

PLEASE NOTE.

If you do not show up or cancel less than 24 hours before the appointment, a Cancellation Fee will be charged.

Thank you for your understanding.

What is the difference between electrolysis and IPL or laser hair removal technologies?

Electrolysis differs in its application and chances of success very much from light-based methods such as

  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
  • Super Hair Removal (SHR)

When you hear about permanent hair removal most prospective customers think immediately of the techniques IPL, SHR and laser epilation, since these present themselves with purposeful advertising campaigns on the market.

However these methods for hair removal can only achieve a growth delay. This means that the hair growth can stop for a period of up to 2 years. In about 10% of the cases the laser can even stimulate hair growth (= paradoxical hypertrichosis) and thus increase the previous quantity of hair.
